Chief Rabbi and shliach in Almaty Rabbi Elchanan Cohen was a guest on a Kazakh TV program about peace and faith this week. The producers of the show wanted to explore the opinions of various religions on this issue. The program was filmed this week, and it is to be broadcast on Kazakhstan’s state network, which is watched by millions of viewers throughout the country.
On the last show to be devoted to such subjects, the Chief Rabbi of Kazakhstan, Rabbi Yeshayah Elazar Cohen, was interviewed on “faith and knowledge in light of Jewish law.” This broadcast received such high ratings that its producers were asked to interview Rabbi Cohen again so that he could express his opinion on other subjects.
Rabbi Cohen stated during the interview that, “anyone who believes in G-d can live in peace with the other peoples around him. Faith in one G-d creates love and fellowship among all of the nations.” Rabbi Cohen also cited the president of Kazakhstan, who has allowed the freedom of religion and religious practices in his country, as an example of how to treat other faiths with respect.
Several days later, the camera crew from the TV show shot footage of morning services at the Beis Levi Yitzchok Shul at the Beis Menachem center in Almaty. The footage was later broadcast as part of the popular weekend show, "Kumbez."
