There are Jews in Kazakhstan

Recently, Israel′s Channel One TV station produced an interesting documentary about Jewish life in Kazakhstan. It gives an interesting and detailed portrayal of the Jewish revival in this central Asian country.

The program was shown as part of a series on the Jewish home, and it featured footage of the dedication of the shul in Astana, Kazakhstan's capital. In the studio, Israel's Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger and journalist Tuli Pikarsh of Hatzofeh were interviewed.

Rabbi Moshe Dovid Cohen, director of the Relief Fund for the Jews of Kazakhstan, reports that the broadcast was warmly received by telephone and email from immigrants from Kazakhstan now living in Israel and supporters of Chabad in Kazakhstan around the world.

Chabad of Kazakhstan is very grateful to the broadcasting authority and the show's producer, Bracha Cohen of Beitar Illit, for producing such a professional broadcast.
