The day camps were run by dedicated shluchim Rabbi Elchonon and Leah Cohen. Around twenty children, including boys aged 9 and girls up to 12, took part in the activities, which were run each day. Mina Leah Cohen of New York and Mushka Beckerman of Beer Yaakov were the head counselors, while Mushka & Chana Cohen of Beitar Ilit and Bat El Ben Moshe of Almaty worked every day until late at night to run actual programs.
These included an “Israel Day,” when the children learned about Israel and the ingathering of the exiles in a very interesting way, including preparing and eating Israel’s national food, falafel in pita. The children also enjoyed trips to the zoo, a theme park, bowling, and more. They also did arts and crafts, listened to Chassidic tales, and learned more about their Yiddishkeit.
