Shliach Rabbi Elchonon Cohen, Chief Rabbi of Almaty, has invited the Jews of his city and other Jewish communities to enjoy a new catering service that provides quality kosher food. For various reasons, the local kosher restaurant is no longer functioning, but residents and visitors can benefit from this new service. The service is run by Gavriel Ben Moshe, who provides prepared foods, such as blintzes, fried fish, and portions of meat. In addition, a range of frozen meals can be purchased for reheating in the microwave. The menu also offers a selection of Shabbos and festive meals and catering for special events. Special portions must be ordered in advance.
The Jewish Center in Almaty also runs a store that sells kosher food products imported from abroad. The store, called “Little Jerusalem,” has expanded its range of products and now sells canned foods from the United States at a subsidized rate. There are also fresh baked goods on sale every day.
