On 20th Menachem Av 5704/1944, Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Schneerson passed away while he was in exile in the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan. There, he was laid to rest in the Jewish cemetery. In honor of the 66th anniversary of his passing, there will be a Chassidic farbrengen in the Levi Yitzchok Shul, which is adjacent to the gravesite.
Chassidim from around the world will also be holding farbrengens in Chabad Houses and shuls. They will talk about the many qualities of Rabbi Levi Yitzchok and tell stories about his life. Many will recall his self-sacrifice for the sake of the Torah and how he stood firmly to his principles as a Rabbi during the harsh Soviet era. The Rebbe instructed that this was a date on which many good resolutions should be taken and to increase in activities in his father’s memory.
The Chabad Center in Almaty will be hosting many visitors to the gravesite of Reb Levik, who will pray and ask for blessings, in the hope that Moshiach will come very soon.
