Jewish Businesses Get in Touch With Their Roots

In Ust-Kamenogorsk, shluchim Rabbi Shlomo and Bracha Torenheim have been getting to know the Jewish owners of local businesses.

Over the past week, the Torenheims have been visiting Jewish-owned stores and businesses in order to create a closer connection with members of the local community. Each business owner received a copy of a special blessing for a business in Hebrew and Russian with a Star of David sign for protection and blessing. The prayer was formatted with a picture of the Lubavitcher Rebbe and his father, the late Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Schneerson, who has a special connection with the Jews of Kazakhstan.

Many business owners had a deep conversation with the shluchim and said they could see the importance of Jewish education. Some of them have even decided to send their children to the Jewish kindergarten that recently opened in the city. Everyone was very moved by the gift they received from the Torenheims, and in one business Rabbi Torenheim has already put up a kosher mezuzah.
