Although there has been a Pesach market in Almaty for several years, this year the range of products on sale was broader than ever. The list included cleaning materials, household goods, and a wider variety of kosher food items.
At the same time, almost one thousand people received vouchers to buy matza, wine, meat, vegetables, and Passover cookies as part of the Maos Chittim Chessed Project. There were even prepared meals on sale.
“A large hall was prepared especially for this purpose, and nearly three thousand people visited the market during its three days of operation,” reported head shliach Rabbi Elchonon Cohen.
The interest in the upcoming Seder was clearly reflected in the number of Haggadahs and Seder plates that were purchased. Nothing could ruin the special festive atmosphere, even when a large delivery from Moscow was delayed due to weather conditions.
The Maos Chittim vouchers were generously sponsored by Alexander Mashkevitz, Boris and Michael of “Tambour Anzour,” Anzour Shalomov, and Yaakov Namtashvili.
At the same time, Baruch Manoylenko, Elnora Diusimbayeva, Gavriel ben Moshe, Ephraim Issagui, and the young shluchim provided much assistance.
