This year, local Jews heard the megillah and managed to observe all of the customs of the day. They started with the custom of putting half a shekel in a charity box designated for this purpose, and then they gave more charity to fulfill the mitzvah of matanot l’evyonim, giving gifts to the poor. They also gave mishloach manot to each other, before enjoying a Chassidic farbrengen, and a festive meal, all in accordance with the customs of Purim that have been observed since the times of Mordechai and Esther.
During this year’s Purim meal, shliach Rabbi Assaf Feinstein explained the inner significance of the day in between the songs that were sung. Before they went home, everyone thanked Rabbi Feinstein and his wife Keren for everything that they do during the entire year.
