This year, Chabad of Almaty ran such a successful Sukkot campaign that the Jews of the city could not avoid the mitzvahs of sitting in a sukkah or shaking the lulav.
The campaign began with building sukkahs outside the private homes of members of the community in various neighborhoods.
Rabbi Mordechai Cohen provided assistance to those wanting to build sukkahs, with the help of yeshiva studentsShaya, Mendy, and Schneur Cohen. On the night after Yom Kippur, they drove around with a truck of suitable building materials and equipment and helped everyone who was interested in building their own personal sukkah.
Additionally, during Sukkot, a mobile sukkah drove around the city every day to give as many Jews as possible the chance to observe the mitzvahs of Sukkot. At the same time, many local Jews visited the sukkah at the shul for this purpose.
