400 ALMA ATA KAZAKHSTAN JEWS CELEBRATE "PURIM IN CHINA"

Four hundred members of the Alma Ata Kazakhstan Jewish community, filled the upscale Charbin grand ballroom, with a special gourmet Kosher menu for the Purim celebration.

It was the 21st annual Purim Celebration sponsored by Chabad Lubavitch of Kazakhstan.

Volunteers from across the community spent months in detailed preparation. From design, menu and decor to children's costumes and performance.

The resounding unprecedented success, was testimony to the crowning achievement of the community wide effort in arranging all the details of the "Purim in China" event.

The Honorable Mr. Michael Brodsky, the Ambassador of Israel to Kazakhstan  flew in from Astana to honor the Chabad Purim celebration in person.

Upon arrival, each guest was given a beautiful customized gift of a Shalach Manot, a Megillah of Esther, a holiday prayer and blessings booklet and a Kosher Chinese menu.

With festive live Purim music, the participants were invited to the second floor where they performed  the ritual of washing their hands before making the blessing on the bread and enjoying the unique gourmet Kosher Chinese Purim feast.

Rabbi Elchonon Cohen, Chief Rabbi of Alma Ata read the Megillah for all the participants, as the crowd enthusiastically booed as per tradition at the mention of the name of evil Haman.

Rabbi Yeshaya E. Cohen , Chabad Lubavitch Chief Emissary and Chief Rabbi of Kazakhstan, presented a special gift of the Mitzvah of Shalach Manot to Ambassador Brodsky, who in turn presented his own Shalach Manot to Chief Rabbi Cohen.

Chief Rabbi Cohen unequivocally attributes the renaissance of Jewish life in Alma Ata and greater Kazakhstan  to the merit of the self-sacrifice of the Rebbe's father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson who's holy resting place is in Alma Ata as the result of his suffering in exile for five years  in Kazakhstan .

In 1939 the ruthless communist regime exiled Rabbi Levi Yitzchak for his heroic leadership of Jewish continuity and Torah observance. His devoted wife Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson voluntarily joined her husband during those torturous and painful years in exile.

It was a unique heartwarming moment to see the 400 participants exchanging with each other the prepared gifts of food, thereby fulfilling the Mitzvah of Shalach Manot.

While the crowd enjoyed the tables laden with Kosher Chinese , the strength, power and pride of Jewish continuity was palpable as the young children arrived to the stage and in a special performance shared the story of the holiday of Purim.

Ambassador Brodsky graciously thanked each of the organizers for a spectacular successful Chabad Purim celebration, in accordance with the Rebbe's teachings  of unconditional love for every Jew around the globe. Highlighting the eternity and resilience of the Jewish people.

A special city-wide children's Purim celebration was enjoyed by the Jewish children of Almaty  with festive holiday celebration and performances for the children's entertainment.

Mr. Alexander Kobler, chief chef and the director of the facility shared his emotional sentiments of preparing a specialized Chinese Kosher menu for this special occasion.

The festive Purim celebration is a badge of honor for the Jewish community of Kazakhstan  and  a living testimony to the dedication and resilience of the Jewish people's commitment to Jewish life , heritage and tradition.

The crowd joined in a L'chayim wishing each other good health and abundance of blessings with the ultimate blessing of Moshiach Now!
