Shevat Edition of Women’s Magazine Now Out

The Russian-language Jewish women′s magazine La Tibya has now produced its ninth edition for the month of Shevat.

The magazine is produced by Bracha Torenheim as part of her activities at the Chabad Ohel Eliezer Center in Ust-Kamenogorsk. The magazine includes a feature article about Nshei Chabad, the worldwide women’s organization, a biography of Rebbitzen Chaya Mushka, and a description of Tu Bishvat, the New Year for Trees.

The magazine also includes an interview with Rosa, a senior member of the community in Almaty, as well as an article about “Ilana,” or Tu Bishvat as celebrated in Georgia until today. Readers will also enjoy an article about children’s education and an extended feature on a day in the life of a Jewish child. There is a fascinating story about an American Jewish soldier whose life was saved in Vietnam in the merit of washing his hands before eating bread. Another interesting article is about our ancestor Sara and importance of modesty as a blessing in the home.

The front cover is a picture of two girls from the Jewish community in Ust-Kamenogorsk - Alona and Sonia. A new writer has joined this month’s magazine - Evgeny Leonov, a young member of the community who also proofread the magazine.

The editor would like to thank Miriam Pilczer from Kazakhstan Jewry in Israel and Boris Molyenko from the Chaad Center in Almaty for their help.
